The fruit stand.

On our way back from Saskatchewan, which was an . . . . OK, adventure, we stopped at a fruit stand just East of Hope. I bought a bag of apples and a basket of nectarines. I was tired, emotionally drained and in a hurry to make the ferry, since our trip back had not been as wonderful as our trip there. It was late and I was in a hurry. I went from a very bright sun in my eyes to a covered fruit stand so I couldn't see in the dark very well, but I was in a hurry so I just paid my 12 bucks and left. I stopped for Gas right in Hope and bought a bag of buns and a package of balony and we had supper. Sandwiches and fruit. It reminded me of those trips we took with Mom and Dad when we woke up in the car hungry and we would get a bun and a hunk of garlic sausage and an apple. It felt good to remember that and the necterines were unbelievable. So sweet and so juicy that you had to suck on it after your teeth sank in because if you just bit it off the juice would run down your face and down your arm. Mmmm. I want a necterine. Ok. Where was I. Well, we made the ferry and got home at 10:45 pm. We all went in and straight to bed, deciding to unpack the car in the morning. I was congratulating myself that I had managed to make the whole trip on the $900 the ministry gave me to take the girls to see their family. That included a car repair in Valemount of $90. Little did I know that I had more to be proud of. The next morning I sent the kids off to school and then decided to go check my email, blogs and my online banking to see just how much money I had left over. I couldn't believe it! I still had $49 to last me a week until I got my monthly check. Then I went to my transactions page and all my pride at how frugal I was went straight down the crapper. That bag of apples and basket of necterines . . . no wonder those necterines tasted so good. Have you ever tasted $112 necterines? They are so juicy! Yeah. Instead of $12 I paid $112 for my fruit. There. Now you can all have a nice little chuckle at my expense and then can we get on with life?

On the upside of this hilarious story is this. I took 5 people on a 9 day vacation with 2 $90 ferry rides, 2 hotel room stays, a $90 car repair for $800. Can any of you say you have ever done that. So, yeah. I paid a lot for fruit, but I am still the bets holiday planner this side of Manitoba.

Nice job!! You paid $112 for fruit?! Holy smokes!! They must have input something wrong in the debit machine, but I'm sure they were pleased that you wanted to give them $100 tip. :P

That reminds me of something that happened while we were in Mexico. Jason, Margaret's nephew, paid $14 for two ice cream treats. There was, however, no confusion about the matter. He did this fully understanding the price. He still get's razzed about it. Anyway, I've spent $100 on stuff that was much less healthy and a lot less tasty than somefresh B.C. nectarines.

I thought you would have learned your lesson after spending $7.80 on reeces pieces. And as I recall quite clearly that was also your last $8 you had. I am having a good laugh about both fully at your expense.

Abe, I would be happy to have necterines for you, but you better bring lots of money.
By the way, I feel really sorry for you with all the snow. Even 5 flakes makes me pity you.

That horrible white stuff has fallen three days in a row here. I'm worried. I'm leaving. I'm going to sit in my new little basement suite in front of the fireplace and watch the rain all winter long, and try to get Peter not to go totally nuts. He'd rather it snow, and I still married him! He does sing very prettily...
The first thing I thought when I heard this story as well, was the Reeses Pieces story. Still makes me laugh. I know a lot of things that I've spent money on that were totally useless. Whenever I get back from a missions trip though, I'd spend nearly any amount of money on fresh fruit and veggies.
